PROFESSIONAL SERVICE POSITION DESCRIPTION

In-House Title: Information Architect/User Experience Specialist

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Information Architect/User Experience Specialist is a full-time staff position responsible for leveraging strategy to shape the user-focused organization of content in support of top-tier University at Buffalo websites and online content distribution. The Information Architect/User Experience Specialist will help to mold the user experience and interface for UB’s key online communications, and will collaborate with University Communications colleagues to conduct project-focused research. The creation of university-wide standards and best-practices for information architecture, and the evaluation and integration of emerging information architecture design technologies and processes will be key responsibilities of the Information Architect/User Experience Specialist. The Information Architect/User Experience Specialist will devise information architecture plans for a wide variety of new and soon-to-be-revamped websites. This work will inform university-wide infrastructure, standards and tools for a branded, message-centric, user-friendly Web environment. The incumbent will provide the UB community with shared tools, templates, standards, documentation, and information architecture that will help the university grow in a more mature, consistent, well-branded manner.

Provides expert information architecture leadership and problem solving advice for Web projects across UB. Develops research to inform strategic objectives. Collaborates on research and discovery phases of Web projects.

Develops information architecture and designs that translate strategic objectives to a conceptual framework for the user experience. Leads participatory design/user testing sessions. Creates systems to track and analyze usage and feedback.

MINIMUM EDUCATION
4-year college degree in a relevant field required; Masters degree strongly preferred

Degree preferably in Informatics, Industrial Engineering/Human Factors, Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Library Science, or Communications

EXPERIENCE
3 years of experience in an information architecture role, with 2 years working on complex, large websites
