Interaction Designer (with good dental hygiene)

at oDesk

Location: Redwood City, CA

oDesk is looking for a thoughtful Interaction Designer to join our quirky, fun-loving UX team. You'll be a valued collaborator in our work to research, envision, design and help build a kick-ass user experience for our global user community. You're an excellent communicator with a strong design sense, a technical background, and the ability to effectively present and advocate for your ideas. As a humble devotee of user-centered design, you understand the value of listening carefully and learning from users and co-workers alike. You know how to get things done while working with a wide variety of personalities and perspectives. Last but not least: no witches, axe murderers, quilters, kleptomaniacs, or Capricorns.

Responsibilities
- Thrive in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment with product managers, visual designers and engineers
- Drive the product forward by creating mockups and prototypes that bring your design ideas to life
- Help define the information architecture, user model and UI across the oDesk application
- Conduct user research and usability tests to maximize the anticipated impact of your designs
- Be passionate about creating a world-class experience that delights our users
- Brush and floss daily

Skills
- 3+ years of interaction design experience for a high-traffic web product (e-commerce or B2B web app experience highly desired)
- A strong portfolio of thoughtful, polished, clean design work
- A philosophy of function over form, context over consistency
- Clear verbal communication and advocacy for effective design
- A determined focus on serving and delighting the customer
- Solid understanding and experience with user research methodologies
- Strong grasp of front-end web technologies (HTML/CSS/Javascript skills are a big plus)
- Ability to fluently speak Latin, Ancient Greek, and/or Esperanto -- while pretty useless -- would be totally awesome
