How Big Can You Think?

This person will lead new research efforts for Yahoo's Media Business Unit. This includes properties such as Yahoo's News, Sports, Finance, Music, Movies, and Games among other things, but you will also work on design standards across Yahoo's properties.

You should have a minimum of 4 years experience with quantitative and qualitative research, and you are an expert in turning customer insights into actionable business intelligence. Qualified candidates will be able to oversee multiple projects for a wide variety of constituencies at one time and ideally have experience with leading research that supports business & product strategy, marketing and design. Strategic and analytical thinking is crucial for the position as well as a strong team-player attitude.

Job Responsibilities
* Lead research efforts and integrate data mining and third-party measurements into a synthesized, cohesive understanding of consumer and advertisers.
* Responsible for user research, including planning and running usability studies (including rapid iterative studies), competitive evaluations, focus groups, diary studies, customer surveys, heuristic evaluations, and similar methods.
* Take the lead on projects and drive them through the process from concept to completion. Manage relationships and deliverables with vendors. Oversee, and participate in research analysis, report writing, presentations and follow-through.
* Communicate user needs in ways that are relevant to the business. Synthesize research findings from internal and external sources into meaningful recommendations and actionable data
* Work closely with people from a variety of disciplines to improve and define the product's user experience; coordinate efforts with other researchers to create comprehensive research plans.

Job Qualifications
* At least 4 years of professional experience within a web site development organization conducting usability studies and gathering user insights to inform the design process. Experience with other types of user studies such as ethnographic research, participatory design techniques, heuristic evaluations, benchmark testing, competitive evaluations, and survey research helpful.
* Strong strategic and analytical skills as well as detail oriented.
* Proven track record managing research for business situations requiring a wide variety of research capabilities.
* Experience guiding research projects through design, fielding, data analysis, report writing, and presentations.
* Ideal candidates must be organized, able to work independently, and able to switch rapidly among priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative and exciting work environment.
* Excellent people skills with experience working in a highly cross-functional team environment with respect for and appreciation of a variety of skills and competencies.
* Must communicate clearly and effectively to varying audiences; have strong analytical skills and excellent interpersonal skills. Must have demonstrated ability to build consensus and collaborate actively with others in a cross-functional team
* Desire to work in a fast-paced, fun and demanding environment.
