Position Summary:

We're looking for CSS/XHTML/Javascript front-end developers who live and breathe standards. No tables here (unless it's tabular data ;) )!. If you like tackling fun, challenging, high profile projects that will be seen by millions of visitors then this may be the right opportunity for you.

Will there sometimes be long hours?

Yes of course, sometimes the deadlines are tight but that's why we are looking for people with great personality who are team players so when we are all working around the clock, we still play nice. :) When a project is done we'll celebrate, enjoy the view and look forward to the next project wiser and stronger than before.

(*We know the current Zappos.com site uses deprecated vintage HTML code that should be saved for a museum, but we're actively working on our new site Zeta.Zappos.com and other, related sites, where semantic XHTML, CSS and unobtrusive Javascript is all you'll find ;))

Front-End Developer responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

* XHTML/CSS coding/updating for assigned projects

* Javascript/DOM scripting to build interactive but accessible interfaces

* Converting legacy code into modern, standards based semantic pages

* Daily maintenance/updates to existing sites

* Play an active role in re-examining current processes for ways to improve workflow

* Some web design projects

* Some travel necessary

Required Skills:

* Ability to write standards based XHTML, CSS and JavaScript code and markup

* A strong understanding of modern web practices to create an efficient user-experience

* Modern layouts using tableless design

* A good understanding of cross-browser issues and their workarounds

* Experience using DHTML and AJAX to enhance the user experience

* The candidate must be project minded and have proven experience with content management (a strong portfolio is required)

* Knowledge of SEO techniques

* Preferred but not required: SSH, FTP, Unix

* Excellent written and oral communication skills

* Must be able to provide at least 3 examples of Web production/ designing / development

* Minimum 3 years experience producing for the web

* Consistent with and exemplifies Zappos Core Values

* Must be a team player and open to change
